anyone know? This would a single scene from start to finish within a feature film....and im not talking about uncut "master" shots....just a scene...

it's probably some tarkovsky film...or bergman or kurusawa...

"Russian Arc"

Runtime: 99 min

Shot in a single take. The first three attempts were cut short by technical difficulties, but the fourth was successful.

Over 4,500 people participated in the making of the film, both in front of and behind the scenes. This included extras, seamstresses, grips, orchestras and the Hermitage staff.

Russian Arc is a master shot. a meandering kind of experiment. Brilliant, but not what I meant by "scene"

Someone mentioned Kill Bill as having some super long scenes, as well as pulp fiction.

I love the idea of testing the absolute limit of an audience; their ability to stick with and emotionally invest in one single scene because it pulls them in so thoroughly

One scene: 20 minutes long...is it possible?

The opening scene of Mel Brooks The Producers (1968 Gene Wilder Version) is pretty darn long, maybe 20 minutes, and one of the funniest scenes ever put on film. And with just two actors, Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel.

Yep, not hard when they are two of the funniest actors ever put on film :)

ah...I forget about the cassavetes films.....but that's what im talking about

I know in eyes wide shut, from the moment Dr. Harford steps into the mansion to the end is around 35-40 min.

this is the longest scene I can think of...true this scene is broken down into segments but entire sequence in mansion is quite long but always compelling

The one shot take in Children of men take is amazing, the one where the baby gets stolen and then when the people fighting each other see it they all stop fighting. That scene is probably my favorite choreography of any movie.

yes...that whole film had many long, interesting and complex scenes

the whole idea of long scenes is very appealing to me...im talking unusually long....i never sat down and figured out the mechanics of how to make it work, but it's something i'm looking forward to experimenting with in my next screenplay

I though of another long one:

The scene when we first meet Frank in Blue Velvet. its a very long scene which begins when Kyle Maclachlan sneaks into Isobella Roselinni's apartment

I'm not sure how long it was, but the scene in Irreversible was long, and it was so hard to watch content wise that I had to stay focused on the camera work to get through it, which made it seem even longer.

Touch of Evil has one of the most famous long opening scenes. Nicely choreographed as well.

Word.

That movie is now officially my answer for "favorite movie"... if you do anything with film... you understand the achievement... everybody else can have opinions on other aspects of the movie, but the two really long shots in COM are freakishly good.
