Longer threaded bolt for the fluid head?

Retrospective

Hello,

I need to replace the threaded bolt on my 100mm fluid head.

I need something that is longer than 2.5" inches so maybe close to 3" inches.

I found one from Sachtler but it's still short, about 2.2" inches.

I would appreciate any help if you know where I can find something longer?

Is there a generic version I can find at the hardware store?
Do you know the size/type/name of this double threaded bolt? Is it M10?

Thank you!
John

I would contact the manufacturer of your head or a dealer for them. That should be an easily obtainable service part.

Are you measuring from the bottom of the ball or is that the entire length of the bolt? I just measured the tie-down bolt on my Vinten 100, which is a 100mm ball head and from the bottom of the ball where the tie-down exits, it is just a hair over 1.5".

Most larger towns have engineering suppliers who have every conceivable fixing and can easily match it up if you take them the short one

You didn’t say what brand head, either. They’re not all the same threading.

Also, did the original get damaged or is there just a specific/special use scenario that you need a longer tie-down bolt? Another idea is to take the original to a machine shop and have them make one, just to your new length spec. Although, depending on the threading, this could be difficult/expensive, as I found out when I had some custom tie-down knobs made many years ago, because the threading is very odd.

So, I stand by my original suggestion of reaching out to the manufacturer or dealer.
