guys is there a longer component cable out there other than what is supplied with the hvx? I'd like to have a 8ft cable if at all possible? thanks!

i'm prepairing for a event upcopming in march08 that will require me to shoot a conference meeting and display the footage on a 19" sharp lcd hd tv in the hall way. possible a projector but the 19" lcd hd tv will mostly likely be picked. i can manage to shoot the conf using component cable but not with the supplied cables that cam with the camera.

how are others out there accomplishing this?

i guess i dont understand how this would work. sorry but this is new to me.. non the less very interested in what you shared.

camera's D4 port>D4 to component cable>signal amplifier>CAT 5e cable>signal receiver>component cable>monitor/projector
this would get you hundreds of feet

or if you just need 8 ft like you said, buy the D4 to component cable and you're set.

Or just get 3 BNC barrels like this:

http://www.filmtools.com/bncbarcon.html

And use that to connect to a 50' component cable to your monitor.

Thats what I do with my 17" panasonic for clients.

Is there any loss of quality going this rout? This will prob be the cheapest way to go for something quick.. Is the work flow the same (mind set) as i last displayed in my prev post?

And going this rout i can shoot 720 & 1080?

I experienced quality loss when running the HVX cable (D4 to component) to a 7" onboard monitor and then a 50 ft component BNC to BNC cable to my Gateway 24" Monitor. The 50 foot length was just too much and interference resulted, so I switched to a 25 foot cable and all is well.

However, this may also be because I initially went with a cheaper RG59 cable from some internet company instead of going with the higher quality ones at B&H. Or because I was also feeding it through an on-board monitor first.

Thanks for the post drcheese- i'm new to this and hope to figure out which way i will go.. depends on if i can afford the 399.00 for the unit as Professor suggested which does say you can run up to 100ft with no issues using CAT5 cables. again i'm no pro on this matter and will try it soon, but, i think running component cables connected to your bnc cables out to your monitor would work better than running component to monitor then extended with bnc cables? Or is it all the same? Perhaps you might get use of the 50ft cable with no loss of quality if you skip hooking up to your 7" monitor and go striaght to your larger monitor..

I seem to remember that when I connected the 50 ft cable directly to the Gateway Monitor that the image looked better than when I was running it through the onboard (although I think it was still a little off), but if in the long term you plan to get an onboard monitor as well then it's something to consider so you don't have to buy cables twice.

BNC cables aren't necessarily better cables than RCA component cables, they just have a more friendly connector. The quality of the cable is a different matter.

Don't buy cheap/generic cables for any long runs or permanent installations.
