Long Time Premiere User - Need To Learn After Effects

Ok, ok...I realize I cannot hold off any longer, and I HAVE to learn after Effects. Here is my situation...

I have been editing in Premiere Pro since version 5 back in the mid 90s, and now have purchased the CS3 production bundle (Premiere Pro CS3, Encore CS3, and OnLocation CS3)...I know OnLocation CS3 is pretty much worthless for what I do (wedding videography), but I need to know how do I use Afer Effect??

Does After Effects open Premiere Pro project files? Should I import audio tracks when it asks? Or do I import final renders from Premiere? I guess I really don't understand physically what the workflow is between Premiere and After Effects...do you go back and forth between them constantly in a project, or do you do everything you can in Premioere Pro, then go into After Effects, finish up and export from there? Does After Effects have Adobe Media Encoder built in? Or do I save my work, and go back into Premiere Pro and render there?

I guess I just need a good beginners course to After Effects...I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I am really good with Premiere Pro, and I feel like there's a glass ceiling...there are so many things I want to do that I can't if ONLY using Premiere. I mean yeah, I can import AEX files to use in Premiere Pro as filters and such, but I want to do all the cool text motion stuff...Adobe Titler is too limited.

Should I get the Lynda.com training course?

Do you know of a beginning/intermediate training release for After Effects made for people who know Premiere Pro really well but nothing about After Effects?

Thanks,

read up on adobe dynamic link. you can read about it in the adobe help. aside from that you can copy and paste edits between AE and PPRO, but you should really learn about dynamic link. its the best thing since sliced bread for working with AE and PPRO on a project. it basically lets you use AE comps within PPRO with live update and no rendering in between. you just get to scroll through your live AE comp in your PPRO timline and edit it just like any other clip and only render once out of PPRO for the edit. you can flip over to AE and make changes to your comps and they will be updated live and dynamically on the timline in PPRO just as they are in AE. check it out .. its easy as cake to use and saves a ton of time and effort, and well as generation loss or render headaches.

I agree with the above. I know the last adobe software bundle came with 3-4 hours (guess) worth of training content which was very valuable to a novice like me. I am not sure where it is, but their was a really hot link for training videos on ae and a bunch more. The link had all of andrew kramers stuff and more...maybe browse the ae forum some more?

'Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects Volume 1' by Trish & Chris Meyer is a very good book to start with.

EXCELLENT! Thank you all for your input. I got the lynda.com training cd's for cs3, and i am buying the full set from andrew for around $300 soon. thanks for the wiki vids!!
