Long Renders

I took 4 tracks on one timeline and nested them together to make one track that is finished and rendered.

I imported some graphics from Livetype to place on tracks 2 and 3 above the nested sequence on track 1. When I go to render the graphics (which is just fonts and some effects) it strangely takes up to 18 minutes to render when it never took that long. At the most 5 minutes or under. When I made the track with the nested sequence NOT VISIBLE that knocked my render time down to 8 minutes. However when I made it visible again it shot back up to a 18 minute render time!

So how do I get around this? For every little adjustment that I need to make to one of the other tracks, I am looking at a 18 minute render time!

Not that this is specifically what is causing your problem, but in my experience, nesting blows. It sounds like a great idea, but it's never worked well for me. Export your nested sequences as a single QT clip and re-import them... unless there's a real compelling reason for your nest.

well my nest is a combination of some photoshop files where I took a picture of skyline of a city and composited with a totally different picture then I removed the sky from the skyline picture and replaced that with clouds that I shot in front of my house and sped them up to 5000% and color corrected them. Then after I blended everything, I created a nest. Yea I havent really used nests that often in the past. I just got done reading an FX book for FCP and they talked about it a lot in there and I wanted to try it out.

I agree that you might want to turn it into a QT file...unless, of course, you still need to do thing within what is now nested. If you think you've got it how you want it, turn it into a QT file. You'll still be able to add filters and effects to the new file, you just won't be able to go back into the individual clips.

Anolther option might be to setup your Livetype Graphic and then turn the track off until you are through with the section so you only have the long render when you're through and turn the Livetype track back on.

Nesting has never done anything but create problems for me. Even in long form projects. I have a habbit of rewiting finalized sections and reimporting. to speed things up.

Thanks for the tips I exported that nested sequence as a QT file and when I imported it back into the sequence the render was under 5 seconds!

Schweet! Strange that Apple wouldn't make the nesting function work as well as that work-around, but there's always FCP 6.0, eh?
