Platform is a Mac Pro, Final Cut Pro 7.0 (and I believe I've run into this problem on 7.0.3 as well).
The video is a 3-camera shoot, HDV, Canon's XH-A1. Actually two of the cameras were A1S, one was an original A1.
Tapes were logged and captured and reference movies made of the 3 angles. They were then sync'd into a multiclip and edited into a 70 minute live event video.
Everything looks and plays fine in the sequence. However, when I export a Final Cut Movie (using the default settings - HDV 1080i).
The video comes out looking totally garbled. It is completely unusuable. If I pick any short segment of the video, just a couple minutes, it comes out fine. I tried setting an IN just at the front of the sequence and just before the end, and it comes out garbled. It seems as if there's a runtime limit, but I have not had the time to trial-and-error over and over again until I hit that limit. the drive it's exporting to is a USB 2 Western Digital 2TB formatted as Mac OS Extended, non-journalled.
I think that covers the details... I've had this problem before. I can export to other formats okay - if I choose 'export using quicktime conversion' and go to H264 it comes out fine.
I like to output a full res HDV Final Cut Movie to archive, and I just don't know what this is. I understand there are work-arounds, like transcoding to a different HD codec, but I'd rather figure out what's wrong with this process, if it has to do with reference movies, multiclips, or what. I've done this same process many times on other events and had no problem, but occasionally longer videos seem to have this problem.
