DVX uses a 4-pin firewire connector. By definition and by spec, the longest firewire cable you can use is supposed to be 4.5 meters. However, some companies make longer ones and they do seem to work -- I have a 10-meter Laird cable and it works fine.
Be *very* careful if buying a longer firewire cable, because they need to be built by a company that knows what they're doing to work successfully at longer than 14.5 feet.
