Logging Questions

1. Is there a way when about to capture footage to have FCP NOT add a 1 or 2 etc after the name of the clip? For example if I capture a clip named "Blue Car" the next time I go to capture it will say "Blue Car1" and so on. Now say I messed up and need to delete Blue car, the next time I go to capture it will jump up to Blue Car2 and I have to always go and manually change it to the correct number.

2. When importing a clip is there a way you can adjust your video scopes? I had some video that was on the HOT side so I brought up my video scopes and sure enough it was very hot! I didnt know how I could adjust the video levels upon import. I know how to do it once the video is ingested into the system.

I'm a little confused here. So you logged and digitized 2 clips, one called BlueCar and a second one called BlueCar1. Now you've decided, after the fact, to delete BlueCar (make Media Offline, Delete from Disk?), and so when you recapture it becomes BlueCar2 in your Capture Scratch (but is it BlueCar2 in FCP as well)?

As we do an offline/online workflow here, we get hiccups in clips every once in a while and they require re-digitizing. All I do is select the clip, go Make Media Offline, chose Delete from Disk in the the popup window and then re-select the clip (or clips) and go batch capture. It maintains the same filename as I logged with and all other settings, no problems (and also once offline, if I do need to make adjustments, like in/out points and the like, I can just go into the browser and do so and then digitize after I've finished my alterations).

As for adjusting footage on import, I've never done that with FCP. The few times I've done it at work its always been with the VTR. We can adjust the pedstals in the VTR and then it will adjust what comes into FCP. But I guess for that scenario it would depend what kind of VTR you have access to (as I'm sure not allow it).

cheers.
