Log & Transfer - Spanned P2 Clips Problem

A spanned clip on my first P2 card seemed to get automatically re-associated with its complimentary clip, once I instructed the Log and Transfer window to point to my second P2 card as well. With the two spanned clips now listed as one in the L&T window, I renamed it and added the clip to the queue, but it failed to "transfer."

FCS2 / FCP 6.0.1 seemed to be "transferring" the clip into an .mov file, per the L&T progress bar indicator, but there was some sort of hang-up (glitch?!) before the process was completed and no usable .mov file was created (just a funky 4KB clip that ended with "#FFFFFFFF.mov"). The clip remained in the queue and the spinning two-arrowed progress icon was still present, but was no longer spinning. Right clicking on "retry" didn't change things.

I searched extensively on this site and couldn't find anyone noting a similar problem (save for people using the Firestore) so forgive me if this topic has already been addressed. Both of my P2 cards were offloaded to a PC and then transferred to my Mac. I haven't had any problems transferring my un-spanned clips.

Is there a preferred workflow to follow in these spanned clip situations (or maybe a user error on my part)? My workaround was to import the two spanned clips separately, but FCP wouldn't allow me to transfer either clip if I tried to rename it first so I just renamed them once they were in the FCP browser.

Thanks Noah. Yes, the lastclip.txt files are intact. The good folks on this board taught me long ago not to screw with the files/file structure.

I jumped the gun and posted this before experimenting more.

The problem seems to stem from simply renaming files in the Log and Transfer window. Subsequent spanned clips were transferred without any problems when I did not attempt to rename them. I've also now encountered the same failure to transfer on one non-spanned clip (but is was only one out of about 56 non-spanned clips that I've transferred so far). Once I reverted to the original metadata, the non-spanned clip transferred without incident.

My guess is that this is a glitch in FCS2.

Anyone else encounter problems when renaming clips in the L&T window?

I will have a problem from time to time if the name I give the clip in the L&T window is too long. Don't get an error message to that effect, I just know if I shorten the name all is good.

Currently having this problem. Very frustrating since the people want to see this footage. The clip just sits in idle, with a little stop sign in the status box to remind me that my mac is getting the better of me!

It seems renaming doesn't help either.

Spanned bummer

Spanned bummer

I am having the same problem and am wondering if I should upgrade to 6.0.2 or try Raylight. I tried ingesting the file with P2CMS and then log and transferring. The clip broke into 3 files on ingest with 1 transferring and the other 2 giving me a red caution sign that I'm so used to seeing now.

Any thoughts?

Try again tomorrow...

Another question...Why did P2CMS break the clip into 3 subdfolders in the directory I set up? The FAT32 format/long clip (+4GB) issue?

This is frustrating.
