Log & Transfer not recognizing FS-100 .mxf content

Shot 100gb of video using HVX200 & FS100...organized P2, went to HDD, enable bypass, drive shows up on MacPro can see a grip of folders starting at 0, going to what appears to be date and time folders with .mxf files..last clip file is there too.
Opened FCP, went to log & transfer like usual, and got a bit scared when it didnt recognize the FS100...no clips showed up in Log & Transfer window..i tried to set the path to the fs100 drive and got an error, not recognizing file structure on FS100.

called Focus Enhancements, they said to try to play the video through the camera, connected FS100 to HVX and it worked, I can see the footage (whew) so, i know its there just need to get it off...Focus Enhancements said if the footage played, the only way to get if off is to transfer from FS100 to P2 cards (i am assuming through the camera, not sure how this works)

How can I get the .mxf files off the FS100, need them as quicktime files, has anyone encountered this anomoly?

I need the wisdom and scolding of Shane Ross to make it through this situation...

Dont try and log and transfer from the FS.

Copy your contents folder and your last clip file to a local drive and then try.

In saying the above as the process to use, you should be able to see them in log and transfer still, but it does take awhile to read the drive. I would just give up on it and copy to local as I suggested. Should be fine.

Thx Noel, i sincerely appreciate your advice. the only thing is there is no "contents" folder on the fs100..only a bunch of folders and files...
The last clip txt file is there, and a variety of folders with .mxf files in them.
I am wondering if I should create a contents folder and drag all the folders into it??

You are an angel, thank you!

What recording set up do you have your fs set to?

There should be a bunch of folders at the top level and the lastclip.txt.

Within that bunch of folders there should be a file called CONTENTS and within that there should be - AUDIO / CLIP / ICON / PROXY / VIDEO / VOICE .

Don't mean to intrude but if you are talking about FCP Log and Transfer and the Canon FS100 then it might be similar to what I do with the HF100.

Log and Transfer doesn't read the individual file. It can't see it. Log and Transfer needs the whole folder structure.

So when you copy from camera to computer, copy the entire folder structure. Then in Log and Transfer pane top left corner is a icon for a folder with a '+' sign on it. Use that to select top level of your newly duplicated folder structure. All your clips should show up.

Hope this helps.

Update:
The Focus Enhancements FS-100 has the following files on it:
Starting at 0-9 (all empty)
Then 20000108-013103-01 (with .mxf files in it)
Sequentially there are more folders all containing .mxf files.
At the bottom there is:
Desktop DB
Desktop DF
fwxdc.dat
LASTCLIP.TXT
log

The video can be played from the FS-100 on the HVX200 camera (so you can see that the video is there) just doesnt show up in Log & Transfer...

Oops my bad, didn't realize you meant the other FS100
ie hard disk recorder.

L&T is not the best, it will ignore a lot of video unless it is in a compatable folder structure and that means original metadata files too.

Adobe CS3 and CS4 Media encoder can often access files (that are removed from their folder structure ) where L&T fails.
However ... I've found the adobe crash rate during transcode to be troublesome.

Hi there...

Question: My Fs-100 clips are showing up in Log and Transfer, however, when I Add Selection to Queue then after midway of transfer the clip stops and a red stop sign with "!" appears. I had copied my Contents folder and lastclip.txt file to a folder on my harddrive just as you said. What am I doing wrong...? Any suggestions?

Would greatly appreciate it!!!

thank you

Hi all

I have a very similar issue. I copied the contents folder and lastclip file to a local drive but when I try to Log and Transfer, it cannot read the files/folders stating they are unsupported media. I used a canon Xf300 and the files are .mxf (which is a format I hadnt previously encountered so I've probably made some simple error) Any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Recover clips with exclamation mark on an fs100 drive?

Recover clips with exclamation mark on an fs100 drive?

Any of you guys ever find a solution to getting the clips with the exclamation mark (kiver & kimi08)
Or is there any one with recommendation of how to recover the clips?

I appreciate the contribution?

If you do not see the CONTENTS folder on the FS-100's drive, the P2 conforming didn't work correctly. Create a folder on you Desktop, copy the entire contents of the FS-100 drive to it, as is. Then delete the LASTCLIP.TXT file on the FS-100, and run the P2 conform function again. If that doesn't create the CONTENTS folder, something is wrong with the FS-100.
