Log & Capture Crash

Have you tried trashing your preferences? With something like that first thing I would do is trash my preferences and then restart everything. Lots of "FCP crashes" related problems settle themselves with fresh preferences. Good luck.

cheers.

Just tried that.
Had no effect.

I am importing via firewire from the HVX. I shot in squeeze 480i.
I am using FCP 5.1.
Is there a setting on the camera that i am missing? I guess anythings possible... though I have imported before with no problem.

Is it something where the camera has to be plugged in - in a particualr order?

I apprecaite any help you can offer.

How is the camera connected? For example daisychaining through a Firewire harddrive can cause this. You can also try zapping your PRAM:

Macintosh computers contain a small amount of battery powered RAM that is used to store information about your computer, called PRAM, short for "Parameter RAM." Default settings for many control panels, including Mouse, Keyboard, and Startup Disk are stored here. This information is stored even when your Macintosh is turned off. Unfortunately, this parameter RAM can become corrupted and cause unexplained crashes. Resetting, or 'zapping' the PRAM will clear the corrupted information by restoring the default settings, thus resolving the cause of the crashes.

Zap the PRAM

1. Locate the following keys on your keyboard: COMMAND, OPTION, 'P', and 'R'. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 2.
2. Restart your Macintosh and hold the COMMAND-OPTION-'P'-'R' key combination. You must be pressing this key combination before you get to the 'Welcome to Macintosh' screen.
3. You will hear the startup chime. Continue holding the keys down until you have heard three chimes.
4. Your computer's PRAM will be reset to the default values.

Help!!!

Okay...

I reset PRam... Upgraded to 5.1.4. Looked on Panasonics website for any firmware upgrades...

Still when I try to log and capture FCP crashes immediately with no warning.

HELP!!!!:crybaby:

When I restart FCP with my prefs trashed it doesn't recognize the camera ...

Could that be it? How would I cause it to see the camera?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Nope.
I will say this... I bet I could get at least 6 or 8 skips out of my powerbook across a
pond....

Any other ideas?
This thing has got me REALLY frustrated.

Thanks for your suggestions.

What drive are you capturing to, how much space does it have, how much RAM, what version of OS X, QT are you running?

Noah

Maxtor 600 gig capture. firewire 800.
2 gigs ram on the powerbook.
OS 10.4.9
QT 7.1.5 Pro

Never had any problem capturing to the external before.

Thanks.

Try capturing directly to the Powerbook's internal hard drive. You can always copy over to the external post-capture. Capturing to an external hard drive can be a can of worms.
