log and transfer question

Hi everyone,
Sorry if these are ignoramus questions; I searched the forum and saw some similar questions but nothing quite what I was trying to figure out. Basically I have exact copies of my P2 cards on the hard drive, and I pick them in the log and transfer function, set ins and outs, rename clips etc. and queue them up. Here are the questions for you:

1. If I keep all of the raw card dumps but want to delete the capture scratch disk at some point when the project is complete, can I open log and transfer to recapture and will the names and ins and outs be correct? This is the case in the short term, but I didn't know if projects always remembered the names and ins and outs of clips forever. If so, this seems like a good way to get the media back online if the project needs restoring. If all of this info disappears when i navigate to the raw card dumps or something, that will be a nightmare and I have no idea how to take a project offline if that's the case...

2. If I delete media from the log and transfer window is it gone from the raw P2 card backups forever or just from the log and transfer window until I navigate to the P2 card dump again?

Thanks so much for the help! It all seems straightforward but I don't want to make things too easy and cause a big problem later on...

try and do a dummy sequence with a file in a new project and then go through your workflow.
After you have the capture scratch for you test seq. - delete it as u want and the try and reconnect media as if you were simulating the real thing.

This will be the best way for you to test the theory and although I think you should be ok to do this it would not be worth the risks to go ahead without some practical experience since you will risk losing alot of time.

As for the log and transfer window I do not think you can delete media off the P2 card but you can select which clips you want - therefore dleting a clip is more like saying i don't want to import this clip into FCP and the clip remains on the P2.
Again activate the "lock" on the card and try it. If it was going to delete the actual clip it would need write access which I am sure it does not since it is not deleting the actual clip.

Good Luck!

David

Thanks for the help! Those both sound like good ideas; I just wasn't quite sure about the long term memory of the log and transfer. In the short term I think I can bring things back and forth without much problem but later on, once the scratch disk is cleared etc. I wonder...Well if I discover anything good I'll post it here. Thanks again!
