I thought there was a device to lock the focus ring when using a 35mm adapter. Will someone point me to some of this devices? I can't seem to any of them. I used tape but leaves residue. If I use paint tape, it's not strong enough.
If it's what I think you mean it's just a velcro fastened neoprene or rubber strap. Easy enough to make yourself, just cut a strap to fit and glue on the velcro. If you can't be bothered redrock make one.
Thanks! That may be my answer because I do not want anything that is permanent because many times I take the adapter out. Okay, so any gaffer tape will work?
Yep, pretty much any gaffer tape. When I had an adapter we had to go between using the Brevis and the naked HVX quite a bit for work. The gaff tape worked perfectly and was never an issue with damaging the camera at all.
but why would you spend over $20 on something a pre-schooler could make for <$2 or just use gaffer as suggested. Alternatively just don't touch the focus ring after you get it right. I've never seen the need for this, I've only ever bumped mine a couple of times and it takes maybe 2-3 seconds to fix.
I Never had any issue with hitting the focus ring, but I can see if your mobile how it could happen. What I did do on my camera was, after I focus the camcorder lens, I would use the focus memory button,(XHA1) so I would make sure to hit the button before a take if we did a break down and moved the cam. Although I don't remember ever having it go out of focus. But like the others stated, gaffer tape, or even a good 14 day painters tape (blue tape, look on the package for how many days it's rated for. some is only for three or less, this way you dont get any residue. Some CAMS have a focus lock. so if it does get hit it will not change.
Many thanks for all the posts. I am mobile with my Sony EX1 + Letus Extreme adapter and I need the focus to be lock. I don't think the EX1 has a focus ring lock feature. When I put the camera in the case, the focus ring move all the time. That's another reason why I need to lock it.
