Location Waiver - Insurance Required?

Hope this is the proper forum.

I am shooting a live event, and it looks like they require some sort of proof of insurance. I have never required insurance before, so I am somewhat confused on where I should start. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Here is the statement from the contract:
Prior to the event, Producer shall provide [CLIENT NAME REMOVED] with a Certificate of Insurance that insures the program and names [CLIENT NAME REMOVED] as an insured. Such insurance shall (i) be in an amount of not less than $2,000,000 for injury or death of one person, $5,000,000 for injury or death of more than one person, $5,000,000 for loss or damage to property, per accident or occurrence and (ii) add [CLIENT NAME REMOVED] as an additional insured. Producer shall provide to [CLIENT NAME REMOVED] before using the premises a copy of the certificate evidencing of the existence and amounts of such insurance.

This is a pretty common requirement for "vendors." Even in my software business I have to carry my own workman's comp and E&O, etc.

Though that policy looks a little high to me...

You can get insurance at a number of places:

http://www.filmemporium.com/
http://www.fracturedatlas.org
http://www.techinsurance.com - this is where I got my software policies, and are very good to deal with. But I don't know if they will know anything about events. But they are good people and worth asking.

From your quotation, it looks like they're requiring you have general liability coverage should your activity or negligence cause injury or death to someone or damage to property.

I have a similar situation. I don't have insurance and just want to waive my right to sue if I get injured, which is highly unlikely considering the nature of the shoot. Is there some kind of clause I can use for this?

Good plan on getting the insurance. It's not really in case you get injured, it's more in the case you or your equipment/employee/subcontractor causes damage or injury to the client. E.g. your 1.1 giggawatt light set gets knocked over, sets the place on fire and you burn your client's building down. While I'm sure you won't be doing any more gigs for them, at least your insurance will cover the bulk of the damage.

They're not worried about you suing rhem if you get hurt, they're worried about being sued by someone who gets injured through your negligence while you're working on their property. Say someone trips over a cable and pulls down one of your light stands on top of themselves and gets severely burned or you're backing up to with your eye in the viewfinder to track someone walking towards you and you back into someone attending the event, knock them over, and they break their nose. They could care less what happens to you and your gear, they want to be covered if you damage their property or injure a third party.
