anybody know a good resource, book, internet, or otherwise, for finding locations in L.A.? i need random stuff like a gas station, pool, roof, some empty roads, etc. can't afford a real location scout and the last thing i have time for is to run around l.a. blindly looking for what i need.

I agree, I use Cinema Scout all the time, its a great resource.
Another good one is:
http://film.ca.gov
Go to the "Location Resource Center" on their home page.
