I have a scene that we will be shooting and I am struggling on the best way to get the best audio. It's a scene where the actors will walk together, one actor stops walking however the other continues for a distance of 20'. Both actors will be in frame and dialog continues back and forth between the two. I want to shoot this as a "oner" no cuts. Any ideas how to do this correctly?

True, but I was tryng to picture what kind of shot that would be with closeup on one person (boomed) and the other one 20 feet way and framed super tight....
 
why should it be closeup , it can be medium shot , the ability to boom the first one and the secend one is only what is the actual headroom
usually if it kind of Dolly following shots when you stop and have one subject on the close plan and the second going to the back , usually focus change wile you still have lipsing .if the headroom good for both , i boom them with 2 mikes , if the headroom is sucks , i use wireless solution
of course some times , you have wide shot and 2 person comming to the camera and one stuck in the baground then the best is to wire both not to have drastically change in the sound when the boom can actually come to work , if its only few words in the beginning ill boom the rest of the sequence and maybe take wild for the first sentenc to get much better match
no rules - you do what the frame leaves you
 
Thanks for the replies....I was hoping to get away with not using wireless, and unfortunately the budget will not allow the use of two boomed mics. I may try and do a loop as well. i guess it's situations and challenges such as this that makes film making so interesting and fun.
 
usually you can loop everything , but be carfull ,it might be problematic if you have overlaps in dialog betwee these 2 , if it sentence following sentence i dont see any problem ,except the actors ability to do it on dry as they did it in shot or repeat it exactly you wont few months later if you do adr
