Can anyone list off the top 2 or 3 discussion boards that specalize in Location sound? Not trying to suggest that the Audio forum here is not good, but looking for more coverage and experiences regarding location sound gear and techniques..
RAMPs discussion group is pretty high-end audio people. www.dv.com has a community board with several very experienced professionals. You do also have access to many working location audio specialists right here
If you are looking to actually learn the craft of location sound, talk to some local professionals and see if you can't get an internship with them, reading only gets you so far.
RAMPS is okay, but the Viagra and porn ads really take the polish off. I'm glad that the few sites like this one don't allow people to piss in the corner and ruin the room for the rest of us.
FYI, many of the same guys on RAMPS are also on dvinfo.net, dv.com, and right here.
If you ask any questions about location sound there and here I'll bet you get the same answer.
That's probably true. RAMPS is one of the main reasons that I decided to get an AKG ULS system... it's been a while but there's a guy on there who used this mic to do a TON of professional productions. (Stuff like every year of the "Hercules" series... and similar projects.) It's a nice mic that I never would have considered if not for RAMPS and a RAMPS buddy of mine.
Ramps is my secend home - but usially peopkle would not unswer on azden qwestions - so for hi end yes , for low end the this board and dv info , the pop 2 and dv net are more then enouth
Thanks Everyone!
It seems that I've gotten the production audio bug. Trying to figure out any tips that would make my new Sound Devices 302, Sennheiser MKH-60, Creative Nomad Jukebox3, DVX100 work together for best known results. I'm already stoked after using just the MKH-60 plugged into the DVX directly. I figured I might as well round out the kit with a good mixer and a backup recorder for prosperity... ;-)
