Local actor's group

I had the good fortune to attend a mixer of a local actor's group last night. The party was at a local bar and grill and they have one every month. One problem I have is finding actors that are reliable and willing to work for low to no pay (in Las Vegas there are even more flakes than elsewhere), and I thought this might be a good way to meet some people.

About forty or so people were there for the get together, and to my surprise there were all kinds of people in the group. Not only actors, but camera people, writers, makeup artists, short filmmakers, and others else that were interested in making films. So it was a real interesting gathering. There was a general mulling about/drinking/networking session for the first hour and a half or so, then we retired to a back room and watched a couple of demo reels that people had brought. After that, the leader had everyone stand up and say who they were and what they were interested in doing, which kind of put you on front street, but the goal was to help people make connections, and you could actually see people hooking up.

For myself, I hooked up with a great casting agent that just started a new agency here in town, and she said they'd be very pleased to help me find people for my projects (even at no money!). So it was a success for me. I'd recommend something like this to anyone.

I'm glad that worked out for you! You know, I love Las Vegas, the greatest city in the World I say. Not sure if I could live there forever, but I definitly want to buy an apartment there (I like the new Panorama Towers a lot). I visit every year. If I;m ever going to be in town while you're filming and you need an actor, well, maybe I can help you out! I wish we had these kind of gatherings where I live, but the town's a bit too small for something like that. Best of luck to you!
