Lobsters

Does anyone have any expierence shipping live seafood from the East Coast to the West Coast? Kind of an odd question, but I'm looking at getting 20 lbs of Lobster shipped from Atlantic Canada (got killer price from local fisherman that live next to my parents 4.00 per lb), but I'm just wondering if it's best to ship them live or cook them first? Anyone? I'd figure by the time their packaged and delivered they'd be in transit for about 16-18 hours.

LIVE!!!

There are some online Maine shippers out there. Give them a call and ask them how they'd be shipped to you. Then, hangup and relay that information to your bud.

We'd get lobster every year from Maine shipped to NorCal. They always came live.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking, but just talked to a few buddies back home that shipped live and it ended up being a disaster, some of them died, also shipped cooked and was a better expierence, no difference in taste. I think I'll get my parents to buy them, let them cook them up and then ship. The live in a small fishing community in PEI, I'm sure she can find out what is the best way to ship them.

Any particular reason you go with live?

When I lived back there, you'd literally get them right off the wharf as soon as they'd come in, one thing I miss about small towns/communites everybody barters with each other, you could trade a cord of wood for like 50lbs of Lobster, hilarious. Snow blow your drive way for 10lbs of crabs.

The shipping may cost more than buying live lobsters in vancouver. Even cooked lobster can go bad in transit and the meat is tougher when you reheat it. Live lobster is only $8.99 lb this week.
