Live Theatre Lighting for Film? Instrument Compatibility?

Most of my experience is theatre based. How well would these instruments carry over to videography? I'm thinking of just using a few old cans from my collection to light a scene, but I'm not sure they wouldn't be . . . Overhwelming?

Does anyone else have any experience/tips for doing such a thing?
 
Yeah, you can light a whole heck of a lot with some par cans and source fours. As long as you have some TVMP's you should be good.
