Live switching 3 DVXs to tape at 24pa

SDX900 is capable of 750 lines resolution (camera head). Even after DVCPRO50 compression, I'm pretty sure you will have more than 650 lines of recorded resolution on tape. Thick can be turned off.

Thanks, Gabriel,

However you're describing DVCPro50 performance. In my case, with switching as my goal, I'd be running the SDX900s at DV25, 60i, in this scenario. In that case, do you know if thick can still be turned off, and what the max horizontal res. of the SDX 900 and 800 is?

Thanks!

Stephen

Resolution will be pretty much the sme (4 samples on luminance on both 25 and 50). The difference is in colour resolution, but your eye is far more forgiving with that. Thick/thin detail is a camera feature, not a recording device one.

Gabriel,

So, just to be clear, as the money involved is significant(!) -- you're saying that the SDX900 and 800 cameras are capable of recording at 60i DV25, and sending this same signal out the firewire port, with the full resolution that MiniDV is capable of -- which would be something over 480 lines. Is this correct?

SDX900 doesn't have a firewire port. The P2 SPX800 can have it (optional). And yes, the resolution will be much higher than the 480 lines you quote. However, the same pulldown applies to the signal coming through the firewire port, in order to keep the signal in the standard specs.
