Live Streaming of Events over 4G?, etc.

Looking into solutions for streaming live video in almost any location. It looks to me like it is possible over 4G, and possibly 3G. But would like to know if anyone out there has any information how to set something up.

Here are some possible hardware options that I found. Anyone else looking into this, and have any thoughts?

Teradek Cube

GoStream Surf

Livestream Mobile

MeshTV Mobile Backpack

Livestream Live Pack

I think these will all do the job, but am not sure on the Cube. Some of these options are more expensive that others. Price is important, but more so reliability as I am looking into streaming a local colleges games. Anyone out there doing this yet?

I've done multicamera livestreaming events just using my Mac laptop
and Wirecast. Also done a couple for the local PBS using
the Sony Anycast system but that costs a lot more $.

With wirecast, did you use that with a wired connection or a wireless connection? Also what was the size of your stream? I hear upstreaming on verizon 3G is about a 500-800kbps bandwith and 4g is about a 1-1.5 mbps bandwith. Also hear your average bandwith should be twice the size of your stream. So ideally I am thinking a 500 kbps stream with a 1mbps bandwith. What are your thoughts alaskacameradude?

When I did it, I used a hardwired dedicated ethernet connection to my computer with a 1meg UPLOAD speed. Most ISP's give you good
DOWNLOAD but not necessarily good upload speed. I paid for a dedicated line with this speed for the length of time that I was
doing this event (I had a 7 month contract to broadcast the event.) I just sent out a 500 kbps stream, but I wanted some extra
bandwidth just in case.....I had not heard that rule about your bandwidth being twice the size of your stream, but in a
funny coincidence, that is EXACTLY the figures I used, in my case it was me 'just wanting to be safe'. It worked just great.
I am sure you could do it wireless as well, but as I was charging the client a good bit of money, I wanted to be absolutely SURE
that nothing would go wrong! As we all know, cell calls can drop and I just felt safer with a hard line. However, depending on
the event and location, wireless can work as well.

I contacted Teradek today. It looks like you can mount the teradek cube in the hotshoe and with a connected verizon 4G card stream wirelessly without the need of a laptop. However if you do use a laptop, it also works with wirecast.

Yeah, it's all about what the client needs....and what gear you already have.
In my case, I already had a laptop.....wirecast is only about $500.....I already
had cameras that would connect via firewire.....and the client wanted multicamera
coverage. So it looked to me like wirecast was the best 'budget' option.
The other options were TriCaster or Anycast.....and that would have
blown the budget. So I ended up going with wirecast. This was only about
2 years ago, and already the number of options in this area have just
exploded.
