Live streaming latency issues

This doesn't really fit any category but I'll have a go.
I have a BM ATEM Mini, and it's great. If I connect the output to my MacBook, I can do live streaming to Facebook, and other services with minimal latency - certainly not enough to trouble me - but last night I tried zoom - and the in to out delay is just over a second. Switching to the MacBooks internal camera it's the usual virtually live source, but selecting the ATEM as the input source I can pick up a cup of coffee, get it to my lips before the screen shows me picking the cup up - and of course my audio is massively aheads.

Why is zoom behaving this poorly compared to other software I have and can use?

I can't find any tweaks in zoom - so not sure why it's unusable like this.
 
well that's 20 minute I wont get back - sadly a beginner intro to zoom, no technical content at all realatd to latency - just for people using their laptops.
 
Audio is fine. It's the video when fed in via USB from the ATEM. If I use Facebook and go live - the ATEM video is perfectly normal and usable - just in Zoom - where the delay is over a second, compared to using the built in camera on the MacBook
 
Right. I understand the problem. The question was where the audio enters the chain vs the video since they are out of sync.
 
Not sure what you have in mind, but embedded audio throughout the ATEM USB output is locked to the video, and perfectly in sync, while using he zoom computer audio setting the audio is essential live, but the video lags behind it. The lag makes any kind of interaction like one of the BBC streams with stupidly long delays.
 
I was thinking that the latency might be in the software encoding of video from the Mini, e.g. if the audio was going into the chain at the computer as opposed to via the Mini. Considering software encoding, is there a way to decrease latency, is disk swapping a factor, RAM utilization, etc. Zoom is pretty resource intensive on my laptop.
 
No idea what's up, other than Zoom being Zoom...

But could you run audio through a small digital mixer with audio offset, or wash your feed through OBS and us the audio delay/offset in the advanced audio tools? Yes, those are workarounds, but if the Zoom delay is consistent, maybe that'll get you mostly synced while you try to dig up and solve the actual problem...
