Live Performance...

Will be filming a performance in a Orchestra Hall next week. I am going to try to plug into the board but that will most likely mean that I will not be able to move the camera (float). I only have one camera for the shoot. I don't have a DAT machine or any other kind of audio recording device. So to get clean audio what are my other options? If the artist wore a Lavalier mic that would be bad huh?

just ask the sound guy on the desk to record it for you, he must have something. give him a call beforehand. sync it up afterwards. if you're going into the camera you'll need to be on record the whole time to capture the whole performance.

Need much more info on performance. How many performers? What kind of instrumentation? Will there even be a soundboard?

Call a local rental house and rent a wireless unit. Tape out of the sound board and transmit to the camera. Easy enough :)

The event is going to be in a large hall where the Philadelphia Orchestra plays. So with that said, there should be a sound board there. There should only be one artist on stage for the performance I am shooting but he said he will have a small band on stage with him as well.
