Live music microphone

Hello, newbie here, and am going to be recording some live music next month at an outdoor music festival. I will be shooting with two dvx-100's, one camera stationary, with a line in from the soundboard, and the other with an on board mic.

I own both a senneheisser ME-66 and a ME-64 mic with a K6 capsule.

Since I'll be recording close to loud speakers, can you suggest which microphone would be the better choice of the two?

I could put the mic on a mic stand next to the camera and point it at a specific speaker (?)

I've had some trouble in the past getting the camera audio levels correct with the ME-64 at concert venue's, as strong bass often is too hot.

Any advise in this arena would be helpfull, just learning!

Thanks,

Russell

I have both the ME66 and ME64 capsules and neither is suitable for music recording, particularly at high volumes. You'd be much better using the built-in mics than the ME66/64 because they can handle high sound pressure levels and will have a much smoother frequency response. Since you're already getting a board feed, I don't see any big reason for purchasing an additional mic. The board feed at an outdoor music festival should be pretty balanced because almost the entire audience will be hearing the music through the sound reinforcement system. In that situation, you should get a very nice feed.
