What is the best way of going for cables for live events for extending the reach of a camera to a mixer or a computer to a monitor.

I like the price of DVI - HDMI because all I have to do is buy the converters to put at one end.

Is going the SDI Video Cable route better?
It certainly is costlier with extenders etc.

Anyone in the UK got good links to different quality cabling over many distances?
 
SDI will be much better and more robust. You can use a decent quality coax cable. A little uglier but maybe cheaper is to use "Baluns" with Cat5 cable. Baluns convert different video connectors to run over cat5 and back again.
