Little Miss Sunshine

I'm with you. Great cast. Buzz is good. That girl runs genuine acting circles around the droid Dakota Fanning :)

It is sad that someone so obviously accomplished beyond her years is denigrated with the droid moniker.

Me too. That statement has no basis whatsoever.

This was loosely touched upon in JDS's Bonehand thread. Fanning is a freak of nature.

Sure, whatever you say. Your "freak of nature" is my "freaking unnatural." Fanning's got a grab bag of plastic emotional cues and it irks me -- and I can't help but wonder about the adults pulling the strings when I watch her act, just like I can't help but sympathize for the kids skilled "beyond their years" pimped out by over-achieving parents on NPR's From the Top every week.

The girl in this movie doesn't seem to be an actor playing a kid, so much as a real kid who happens to be in a movie.

Diff'rent strokes...

Loved this film. Rarely does the same movie make me laugh so hard I can't breathe and wipe away tears.

The little girl is adorable. Kinnear, Collette, and Carrell shine. But Arkin steals his scenes. Funny, funny stuff.

Wish I'd made this film.

I've seen this movie twice now for free. They had tons of free screenings here in Houston. The second time I saw it was at the Angelika, and right when the movie ended they put up some chairs at the front of the theater. Sure enough...the co-directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris were there and did a Q&A! I was flabergasted! I had no idea!

So afterward I went up to them and talked to Jonathan for about ten minutes. I asked him for some independent filmmaking advice and he suggested for me to move to LA or go to UCLA grad school. That's where he went.

Anyway, great guy! And awesome movie. One of the better movies I've seen in a long time.

If you love depressed or depressing characters, THIS MOVIE IS FOR YOU! Ugh, I sat there the entire movie and only laughed once (at the admittedly funny scene where the cop inspects the trunk).

The thing I hate the most about this movie is that just like all these studio execs have turned the big budget movie into an equation (hot talent + up and coming actress + commercial/music-video director + mainstream jokes, etc., etc.), the indie world has now done the same thing for Sundance movies (quirky cast + mainstream actor playing against type + dysfunctional family + weird situation = SUNDANCE GOLD!).

The only thing I hated more than this film was listening to everybody else around me laugh.

p.s. Would that girl really have been in a top beauty pageant?

Just saw this tonight and really enjoyed it. Alan Arkin was hilarious. I thought it had a lot of heart which I guess sounds cliche to say, but that's what I got from it. Definetly worth having to pay $10 in my book.

It was really funny, but it also had some really great values. Overall I think it was worth the money.

And Alan Arkin lives in my town.

I also saw this for free two weeks ago, I think it's a great movie. I can rarely see a movie twice, but I will for sure take my gf to this when we get a chance, even if we have to pay...

finnaly got a chance to see this and loved it. dvd is coming out too. be sure to get it if you havent seen it yet.

the performances are great and i think this is a film almost anybody can enjoy

i really enjoyed it. it was weird, but a good kind of weird.

SPOILER BELOW

"i'd like to dedicate this performance to my grandfather who taught me these moves"
"aww that's nice. where is your grandfather?"
"in the trunk of our van" LOL

END SPOILER

Carell gave a really subdued performance that i really enjoyed, i HATED greg kinnear's character throughout the first half or more of the film... success VS. losers... he was setting his daughter up for failure IMO. Alan Arkin was great though.
