I'm surprised nobody's started a thread about this one yet. i just saw it the other day and i think its the best film of the year. Also, probably some of the most effective voice-over narration ever. Its touching and funny and scary. I can't say enough good things about it. Its Todd Field's second movie. his first was In The Bedroom which i think is also really amazing. I highly recommend them both.

****POSSIBLE SPOILERs****

This film did okay at revealing character and motivation through action and dialog but then the voice-over took me out of the film every time.

The entire skateboarding device was setup and executed poorly in the writing. After having built up the climactic romantic love so very convincingly, we were supposed to buy into him being distracted and missing that all-important appointment in the way he did and worse, just tossing it all for ..... why? This skateboarding device was crucial to the entire denouement of film and was just a sloppy mess.

Film's worth seeing. Good acting. The director co-wrote the screenplay with the novel's author. At 368 pages, the novel was just too long to squeeze down to a representative 120 page screenplay and a lot of the novel was obviously lost.
