Litepanels new light output but same fixture

I like that theyve increased the power and used a multiplier instead of letters. But I still think they're pricing is still too high for the equipment. If the light was outputing an m40 or a 2500hmi equivalent thats different. With the cheaper knockoffs they should of brought
Either the price down or brought more functions.

Also, I like them as a bounce or as a fill with a chimera

That's some mighty wishful thinking there, isn't it? I know the tech is getting better, BUT an LED light that outputs the equivalent of a 2,500-4,000watt HMI for ~$1,300?! An M40 is like $16,000.

Considering we're only just now getting into the 400/800W HMI territory with the Aputure 300D and the Rayzr 7 (in the ballpark of $1000-1500), I have to agree.

I'm saying for its functions and pricing it still way too underwhelming when I look at kinos , litemats, quasars and arris. Its not as fiumctionable as the litemats and quasars. It still does just bicolor.
And its power output is still underwhelming.I Meant to say 1200hmi or 2k fresnel for that price. Didnt mean to say m40 a freakin sputnik ds6 puts just about that much light out I

I haven't seen any talk about the new Aadyntech's on here... but they now have a Cinema series... that has the power of the JAB... but at very high CRI-TLCI... THEN... you really are talking HMI caliber output. Of course that comes at a price 4x higher than an Astra. Still... that's something any LED light "enthusiast" should see... the power of a JAB is awe-inspiring (especially considering the size/weight)... the first time you dial-up that dimmer to 100% (in person)... you will laugh uncontrollably, unless you're left speechless... either reaction is a pretty sure bet. I think I may have said a 10-second version of "hoooo-leeee sh******t".

Astras are very user-friendly (in my experience)... very light-weight... even down to the "ballasts"... so they work easily in a lot of setups. If I were looking for a cheaper option with similar functions... I'd probably look at the Aputure options. They look pretty nice in person (build)... but I hoped I'd see some sort of "free lunch" LED advancements at NAB... and I didn't. Everything kind of seemed to be priced/powered about where I'd expect... no bargains, without other compromises... or really high-output and/or functionality... without way higher cost. For lighting, I thought NAB was kind of a dud this year... but I think the Astras will still hold onto their same niche until whatever comes next.

Did they improve the output of the JAB's significantly over the original? I demo'd an original JAB several years and I was unimpressed(even though I really wanted to like it). If it had not been a rainy/overcast day, it would not have been enough power. And it had a green spike.

I have the Lupo Superpanel Bi-color. It's so powerful that i can't use it naked on a person. I had use it for a quick stand up, and had to dim it down to 12%. The lux is 18-22k lux either daylight or tungsten.

I almost always diffuse LED panels to avoid multiple shadows.

Don't own Astra's, but rent them fairly regularly, usually when traveling. Seems most every G&E house has numerous Astras in their inventory.

I own Aladdin Bi-Flexs, which require a bit of cabeling to build, so appreciate how easy the Astras are to set up, & if needed, slap on a SnapBag.

The original JAB Hurricane matches an 800 Joker (or slightly beats it)... and THROWS so you can light up a house 50 yards away... or an intersection 75 yards away... so I'm not sure what you consider impressive, but that did it for me. The new Cinema JABs do that also... with no green spike (as I just said in the post you quoted)... considering any HMI isn't great TLCI... that was impressive by my standards.

The standard staffer kit for Nightly has a couple JABs... which can light a medium-dark skinned anchor with a full-sun backlight... like a couple Jokers.

I was comparing the original to one of my Bron Kobold 800's and it definitely wasn't fighting in the same weight class. Glad to hear that they have improved the color. Maybe I'll revisit them... I still want to try out the Hive 1000 watt plasmas, too. But right now, I don't think I'm going to be adding any big HMI's or HMI equivalents/replacements this year.
