Litepanel Clone

There are many lookalikes online, some are very cheaply made and cheaply priced and others are cheaply made and overpriced. Some are even better than the ones they are cloning from at a much lower price. I highly recommend Cool Lights for service, quality and value. they have a nice line of led fixtures. You can't go wrong.

Perhaps the word "clone" is not the proper terminology to use when someone is making a similar yet different product. As technology marches on, there will be products that will look like others for obvious reasons other than deliberate cloning, like FORM follows FUNCTION kind of thing. Can one say that automobile tires are clones of the first or lightbulbs are clones of the first ? No, they are obvious LOGICAL designs from available technologies. Yes, there are those who make almost exact clone copies of originals like the zillion fake Rolex watches that street vendors sell for 40 bucks, but those are deliberate clones that are not only copied millimeter by millimeter but use the trade name itself stamped on the dial. When it comes to led panel type designs, it is an obvious shape for designers to make. Would a designer make a triangular or hexagonal or trapezoidal shape of a led panel when he can make it simply square like 1 X 1 or .8 X.8 or 1.36 X 1.36 , thus avoiding costly manufacturing and assembly time just to make it look uncloned and uncopied ? What I am trying to say is that square or rectangular led arrays are the obvious shape choices any designer would take even if he hasn"t seen any panels by any manufacturer before he sits down on his drafting table. There is nothing novel or unique about square or rectangular frame in order to house leds in. Just because one company decided to use that dimensional format does not make them novel in shape. It"s like the natural world, things tend to "design" themselves in the simplest shape necessary to exist. Now if that originator of the 1 X 1 had instead designes a tetrahedron shaped panel and someone else also produces a tetrahedron panel, well..that's would be another thing, or should I say copy or better still "cloning".

So that I get fewer replies that I have to report to moderators I'll rephrase the question.

I have worked a couple of shoots where we used cheap copies/clones of the Litepanel 1x1. If someone else here has seen them and knows where they can be obtained that would be super.

I think Norman has said it best with his first post.

It seems the original poster is looking for something like LitePanel's 1x1 panel, but perhaps less expensive.

Norman suggested Cool Lights as a start. I only use LitePanel, so I don't have any good alternatives to give... however I'm sure there are some decent alternatives.

With that said, let's not get hung up on the word 'clone'. It's been discussed how that's not quite proper terminology, but I think we all understand what the OP was asking.

So... any good 1x1 Litepanel alternatives?

I withdraw the question. Moderater please delete thread. This is a waste of everyone's time. I'm looking for the Liepanel 1x1 clone.

If you have so quickly given up here... why don't you attempt to contact those whom you worked with you on those jobs? Seems you need answers now, and since none of us were with you on those sets, we can only guess to what you were using... and that sometimes takes time. If you give the thread more than 36 hours, you might get more answers, one of which might be what you are looking for.

Does this look like it? It's not a 'clone', but rather just another similar sized LED array which is available in 3200, 5600, spot or flood.

Ryan and the other poster is totally right. Maybe this is the fixture. If so these can be found on ebay.

I think the original poster is looking for the ePhoto LED 600's and 900's. You can find them on their site, or on Amazon.

Everone is touchy about the whole "clone" thing because light panels is currently filing an injunction with the US trade commission to block the import of these panels into the US. They don't want you or I to find out that you can buy a similar panel for 1/4th the price!

I've used the dedolight Felloni. I really liked it! I own litepanels, so I'm committed there, but the felloni is cheaper and brighter. It's a little plasticky though; I'd worry about its long term durability. A lot of the litepanel "clones" out there have lousy color, and it probably gets lousier over time. I'd be wary of any really no-name 1x1s. At NAB i saw about thirteen different LED 1x1s; a lot of them were claiming low price as their dominant positive quality. That alone made me a little wary.

Yes, I think Jon has it with the ePhoto as they look like what I've seen. I refer to them as clones because of their obvious similarity and Litepanels may have their lawyer PM me if necessary. Thanks, Jon.

I've been using a set of the Cool Lights LED 600's for a year now and love em. They work great and have proven very durable, the included barn doors are a fantastic plus. Recently had the big plastic 'wingnut' that tightens the tilt angle of the light crack on me. With out it the light becomes nearly unusable. Called Cool Lights up about a replacement and they had two new ones at my door in three days. New wingnuts that is. Couldn't be happier with them.
