We had similar problems.
It´s even more "fun" if you live in Europe.

As a consequence, we sold all our 8 lite panels at Ebay, took the money and bought 15(!) Z96 LED panels for it.
Actually they are much nicer and brighter as the lite panels - I wish we would have bought them in the first place.

As bright as or brighter than the light panels? Is the color temperature accurate and consistent? And is there any flicker?

Brighter than lite panels, color temp is damn close to daylight, with a slight "magenta" cast if you are anal - but nothing to write home about, plays nice with other daylight sources and stays pretty much the same when dimming.

The two filters are crap, we use gels.

Flickers only when the batteries are low - after one hour of full power.

I was surprised, they are much better than I suspected.

Did you pay with your credit card? Check to see if they have any kind of extended warranty or purchase protection. My american express covers an additional one year warranty.

I'm not going to get into detail but I will never buy a LitePanels product again in my life. I'd rather wear a miner's hat with a light on my head.

Same boat here... after paying $340 for the flimsy weak litepanel micro... no more.

I find it funny that people pay $300+ for flimsy plastic LED panel lights, especially after my recent shopping experience.. I needed a light for my d7000. After comparing the various brands/models on display at B&H, I ended up getting a bescor light for around $80 bucks - 96 LED panel with a dimmer and is super bright at full output (70w). It's made of plastic and feels cheap, but at least it's cost somewhat makes up for its low-budget feel. When I compared it side by side with a $400 litepanel model, I could not tell the difference in quality, not to mention the bescor was brighter. This is the main reason I bought into a brand I never heard of... why pay more for the same thing under a different name, especially when your trying to keep things low-budget.

I believe the reps claim that they design the panels to be flicker free and from my research, the panels contain some fancy electronics to combat flicker which in turn demands a higher-price point. I don't see any flicker at a $80 price point, even at really high shutter speeds. overall, prices for these LED lights seem artificially high and after reading about your experiences, I feel even better about my purchase, even If I dont expect it to last more then three months :D

Well back then, there isn't much LED light cheep alternatives to buy... so I was the one of the suckers buying that weak plastic flimsy light.

For those cheap LED lights, it's been reported using AA batteries cause the light to flicker.. and the HDV-Z96 light will make a whinny noise while using the dimmer not in 100%... But still, the price is great! =)
