Lite Panel Flouro's

Anybody on here have or used the little Lite Panel LED flouro's that can attach to your camera or placed basically anywhere you want them?

I just check out their website and they seem pretty cool (www.litepanels.com)

There is an article from the DP of the show CSI and he said he uses them a lot in those cool looking LAB scenes on the show.

I am considering getting one to mount to the DVX. They also have those light rings too. The only thing with the light ring, they do not make an adapter for the DVX camera. It was suggested to me that you would need to mount the light ring to a pair of C--stands then place the camera in the back of the ring so the light goes around the lens. Maybe they will make an adapter later on so you can use the ring and add motion to the shot. For now its just for static use.

pro and cons

pro and cons

hi
i didn't test them yet, but they seem to fit well in many situations..like dark close-ups and seem also to help in being more quick in setting those kind of scenes.
but i can easy imagine that once attached to the camera they will produce an innatural lighting movement especially to the background elements of the scene, and unless this is your shooting intention isn't so good.
right?

I bought the mini lite panel that mounts to the top of the DVX and I bought the battery adaptor so I can use the same batteries in the dvx as the lite panel..
Problems:
1) the newer 5600 batteries sold on this site don't work in the lite panel.. they mount loosely and therefore don't make a solid connection... OEM panasonic batteries may work but I can't guarantee it. The DVX batteries work great for the camera so I assume it is the light panel adaptor that is creating the problem..

2) once you color correct the light to something usable (because it is really white, 5600k), you loose a lot of its power. I think the light would be better if it were brighter.

3) there is no on/off switch on the light but you can dim it all the way down which is effectively 'off'

4) the verticall throw of the light is a little narrow. Meaning if you are very close to your subject the bottom of the subject won't light all that well. Check out this weeks eposide of Chris Angel Mind Freak... they are using the light on top of there camera in the radio station.

Benefits:
1) With two 3500 batteries the light lasts about 5.5 hours... that's great
With two 5600 batteries (if I can get them to work) it would last about 8 hours! awesome

2) The light is more natural looking on people... they don't look like a deer in the headlights... I think this is because the light panel is horizontal and it reduces hard shadows. Looks real natural.

Overall I think the light is great... I wish they sold version 2.0 to get some of the bugs out..
I still like it a lot though..

where can I find this adapter?

where can I find this adapter?

I've been wanting something like this for months, to power my litepanel from DVX batteries.

Please sir, may I have a link for this adapter?

heh heh heh

Thanks,
D

5 minutes, and google, later I've found them. thanks.

You bought the battery adapter through the folks at Litepanels or somewhere else? You lost me there then DaFlye mentioned he googled and found an adapter. I wonder why they made those lights with no on/off switch.

Yes Lite Panel sells the mini dv battery adaptor. But like I said it does NOT work with the batteries sold on this site (for me anyway). Either my adaptor is broken or the batteries don't sit in the holder tight enough.
My next attempt is to try to power the lite panel off of the hot shoe but It is not working for me yet.

and yes no on off switch... you can either dim all the way down or pull the plug.

There is no HOT SHOE on the camera, I know what you mean but it referred to as a COLD SHOE because it cannot power anything. Its just there so you could put a light or whatever there but you would have to power it by other means. Anton Bauer makes a an adapter that allows you to use their "brick" batteries with our camera. I have the model number around here somewhere....I will have to look it up.

Thanks shooter.. Jaime from Lite Panel also confirmed that I can't use the hot shoe for anything except mounting..
As much as I love the Lite Panel I'm sending it back. I can't deal with the battery thing..

I know the Sony adaptor and batteries would probably work well because the pins are so much thicker. But I'm having too many problems with the panasonic adaptor for something that cost this much..

Just so you know there is a factory rebate coupon in the back of DV mag that supposedly gets you an additional $150 off the price. Good deal!

Cool I will have to make a note of that! Heres that Anton Bauer information I was speaking about.

QR-DVX = Battery Adapter

You can use Anton bauer Trimpac or Digital Trimpac
Hytron 50
Pro Pac / Digital Pro Pac
Dionic 90

To use THEIR light, you would need to get their power tap extension cable.

If your going to be using these brick batteries for your DVX I would reccomend using some sort of shoulder support set up for the camera as those batteries are heavy!

You can also use what most people use for the LIte Panel and that is the battery pack that they sell in the Kit.... I'm sure that works fine.... but doesn't last as long as two panasonic batteries.
