Linux NLE closest to Vegas?

I'm sick of Windows. Just re-installed and it managed to corrupt ALL my captured video! Luckily I still have it on tape...

Now I want to move on to Linux, but at the same time I don't want to lose my beloved Vegas 5.0 :embarasse So what I need to know, is there some Linux NLE that supports 25p and has similar interface as Vegas? I really need to know...

Well, they're working on an Avid that'll use Linux. It'll be about $145,000.

You're probably looking for something a little less pricey, though. I can't find any...but there should be something. After all, isn't Linux the wave of the future?

How could it have corrupted all of your captured video?

Oh well, I just sorted out the corruption problem by opening the files in linux:/ It seems that Windows is having problems with the file system, basically microsuck just messes everything up!

@GenJerDan: Are you serious? Is it really going to cost THAT much? :(

Linux is a mystery to me. Awhile back I was thinking about giving it a try and found several editors. Can't seem to find them this time, although I believe I was searching for Linux distributions and there was a link to all the software available.

In the meantime, I found this. It's $195 but looks pretty robust...

Oh hey that looks great man! Definately going to give it a shot. :)
Thanks!

That's an Avid, not Avid-the-software. It's a whole editing workstation hardware system thingie. :cheesy:

But...probably. They ain't cheap, no matter what computer system is at the base.

Again, I don't know how it can do that -- unless when you reinstalled, you chose FAT32 instead of NTFS and those files are bigger than 4GB.

You're right. I saw the screenshot of it at the SourceForge source/download pages, though. There's a link there...somewhere.

Why they don't have one on the "real" pages, I don't know.

That happened to me a year ago. The FAT (or whatever NTFS uses) got corrupted, and mixed up the allocation table, so that all video and music was scrambled. I didn't find out until later, so couldn't use the backup FAT. :(

I keep backups, so it wasn't a big issue. Hard disks are dirt cheap -- buy one (better two), and copy all your files over once in a while. You don't need a firewire case or anything. Just crack the case and plug an IDE cable into it -- takes no time at all.

My recommendation would be to keep XP, but keep in on a lean and mean machine which does nothing but editing. Don't surf with it. Don't play games. And for god's sake, don't install Office.

I've been using Linux since '93 (Unix user since '83) and am a fan, but XP apps rule.

That's probably it...but Websense won't let me look at free stuff.

But...looking more closely at the project...it's at the very beginning stages, so can't do much. Ah, Open Source. Everyone wants the end-product, nobody wants to help write it. :)
