Hey all,

Is there a way to embed website links into a clip in FCP? I produce shorts, and I want to insert a link in the title sequences of the shorts that sends people back to my website. Is there a way to do this? I have FCP 5, Motion, and Quicktime Pro.

Thanks!

Matt

The only way to really do this (that I know of) is if you embed your video into Flash. Then, you can make your Flash movie into a button from within the Flash application.

I'm pretty sure you can't do this with QT or WMV.

If you use DVD Studio Pro for authoring your DVD you can embed anything you like (emails, web pages etc). I'm assuming you are burning to DVD.

DVDSP uses the DVD@cess feature, which is not universal, you have to install the DVDSP DVD@access software on the machine you're using, or it won't give you the web links.

Flash, you want to do Flash, as DVDSP's scheme isn't all that reliable.

If you use DVD@CCESS in your DSP project it will automatically write the DVD@CCESS windoze installer on to the DVD-ROM portion of the disk, really painless to setup for the user you just have to tell them the simple steps involved in your dvd menus. For the actual links themselves I usually create a button that simply jumps back to the menu you were on and then tag the DVD@CCESS script to that.

But since you're talking about short films and web links, I'm going to assume you want web links that appear in a downloadable video file. I know that iMovie 06 has the ability to embed weblinks into video for use in podcasting but I'm not sure if that means it'll only include the links if you export in iPod encoding or not. Something to try though.

Thanks, guys. Yes, we are mostly interested in linking off of downloadable video files and streaming content. I was aware of the podcasting feature, because I've seen some people linking off of podcasts. That's sort of what gave me the idea. The other thing that got me thinking about it is Revver (www.revver.com) - they present their videos in quicktime, and at the end link to an ad. However, I would imagine they're using some sort of special technology for this...

Interesting. It is QT, as you indicated. I think what happens is that they combined a Quicktime video and QT picture to the end of the video (you can see that the link hand does not come up in the video but switches over when the ad comes up). You CAN make links to these pictures, but I don't know how to combine them into a video.

if you check out the quicktime support page in the apple's website you find out some interesting tutorials about qt interactivity...
