Linked In

I don't think anyone started one for DVXUser specifically. But there are a bunch of film-maker groups on it. I am on linked in, but it hasn't done anything for me. I guess after the first 6 months, I just decided.....enhh, just another social media site. I have actually gotten more work from Facebook, probably because it is more "interactive" and you can talk/chat real time with people.

Yeah, I noticed your point, but still. I don't intend to let the social media sites to do the job for me. I mean, to find a job. I'll do it on my way. But, if I asked it's because someone told me about it and I thought it would be useful.

Linkin Id gets you on the business side of things. It's more about jobs, contacts, etc. I don't chat on there. I do however have accumulated some top people in the biz on there that I could not on FB.

I'm on there, but prefer to connect to people I actually know, or have worked with.

To me LinkedIn is kind of peculiar. It's a business outlet, but without the social interaction and freedom that Facebook has for example, I find LinkedIn to be not very effective. Maybe I'm not connecting with the right people?!

I've been on there for years, people constantly wanting me to "join their network," both random strangers and people I actually know. Has anyone, even ONCE, contacted me about anything, EVER? No. On the other hand, I just joined four groups related to video/film production, and now am getting updates daily about job postings and discussions. So maybe something will eventually come out of that. Put it this way, it doesn't hurt you or cost anything to be on there, so why not?

Hi Andrew, I didn't saw this message when you send the connection request. After seeing few things, I prefer to stay connected to people and collegue I know. Also I made up with some groups, so at least I can see some jobs and ask for help for some project.

Thanks!

Despite having a Linkedin, I find myself more often anonymously browsing it (not because I'm hiding, but because I seldom login) to find out the backgrounds of people who are interviewing me. Basically, I'm more of a stalker on Linkedin than Facebook...

This may just be my experience, but...

I've never even had a conversation on Linked In. I get "connection" requests CONSTANTLY, and almost always, easily 9/10 times, people who I sent my resume to, or spoke to about a shoot, but have never worked with. Maybe this is just my area (around DC), but it seems like the people who use it the most are the people who do the least professionally. I've followed some various connection requests back to find that they're people who put a listing out looking for a videographer, I sent them my information, and never heard back from them... but they added me on Linked In months or a year later. Weird place.

Also, some of the worst clients I've ever had populate it.
