I've been working in 24pa, rendering to avi, 24p ntsc dv 2-3-3-2 from Vegas 5/6 (I've tried both), then burned to DVD in DVDa 2.0 and 3.0(again I've tried both) and I keep getting lines? flickers? on my video. What is it and how do I make it stop? I have a feeling this question has already been answered but I want to be sure. Thanks for your help.

Ditto. I've heard that DVD Architect does a fine job of rendering the AVI's to MPEG2, though I've never tried. I always render the way HorseFilms mentions ... the only thing I change from default is I setting the video rendering quality to "best" (though I've heard this doesn't really improve anything except increase render time), and I also check the "two pass" box on the video tab, which again doubles render time but can help increase quality (as stated in the manual/help).

HorseFilms and Envision: When you render your work for DVD in Vegas, do you usually render it to MPEG2 or AVI? And, what are the advantages?

I go straight to MPEG2. If you render to AVI, DVD Architect will have to re-render it to MPEG2 anyway.

I tried that but when get to DVDa, I ran into problems with the file being too large to fit on the disk. I've been doing some checking and it's beginning to look like my problem is the DVD player I've been using. It's supposed to do be able to do progressive and I don't seem to have the problem on my other players or my computer monitor. Thanks for your help.

What size of disk are you using? You should be able to fit UP TO 2 hours of MPEG2 video onto a standard 4.7GB DVD.

Also, you CAN adjust the bit rate settings on the DVD/video project ... or try to the automated "fit to disk" option to get it to fit.

I'm using standard size DVD's. I didn't see a fit to disk option in Vegas but of course I could've missed it. as far as getting 2 hours on a DVD from Vegas, I guess I'm doing something wrong because I'm lucky to get much more than one hour. In fact, my AVI files have been as large as 25 to 30 gig after rendering. When I render to MPEG2 in DVDa though, I can adjust the bit rate and do a fit to disk quite easily.
