Maybe everyone knows about these but I've just come across a GE lamp, GE FCM-HIR 650, with some great qualities for filmmakers. They are the double-ended straight variety such as are used in work lights, Totas and others. They are 3200K, have a life of 400 hours, and use a coating that passes visible light but reflects back IR energy into the filament thus increasing the quantity of visible light for any given power consumption. You get around 90% of the light from a 650W lamp that you would from a standard 1000W lamp along with the heat from that power consumption and much less IR.
The designation is GE FCM-HIR 650 or FCM/HIR-Q650T3/4. I see these on the Web for from $17 to $45.
Anyone have any experience or something to add?
