Limiter question

Hi all!
I wanted to know if the limiter works when transferring a video clip from the computer to the dvx100 via fireware.

Thanks!

Re: Limiter question

Thanks Barry!

I supposed so but I had to ask due to a problem I have. I make 'indie' music videos and one of my clients said to me that he heard his video on TV and it sounded distorted! I was worried thinking about the audio levels I got when transferrig to the miniDV from the computer. I checked it out and founded that the peaks were on -8db. So I think it's not my fault. I still don't know why he heard it that way. Perhaps the Betacam copy they made was saturated... I gave them the master on a miniDV tape using my DVX100 as a recording deck.

I also think the problem may be caused by a wrong lecture of the -12db 1K tone of the Vegas when they made the Betacam copy. Perhaps they supposed it was a tone at 0db...

Anyway, don't you think that there won't be any problem even if I don't change the volume of the song? I mean, letting it reach the 0db top?

Thanks again.

Juan

Re: Limiter question

If the audio's good on your cam, I'd suspect that it's their dub that caused the problem. If you used -12db tone, and they were expecting it to be 0, then yes, that'd cause clipping and distortion on the dub, although any dub house who's paying attention would catch the error and fix it...
