Lightworks V2026.1 has now been released. This is undoubtedly the biggest Lightworks update in many years, so be aware there are a lot of changes, and comes with a new-look website and logo: https://lwks.com/
It's intended to be more friendly to mouse centred users, but still keeping the keyboard and console close to its heart. However, before using it, I would recommend reading the what's new page: https://lwks.com/whats-new and watching the new quick start video tutorial:

It's best to experiment with V2026.1, before working on a serious project. There's now an accessible Knowledge Base within Lightworks, which can be opened in the top right corner.
Although the video shows the fixed layout, the flexible layout is still there. This also has the new edit tools on the timeline. The Free version can now export 1080p
LWKS announces that:
"This release represents more than just a collection of new features.
Over the past year, we’ve been working hard to modernise Lightworks, improve the editing experience and lay the foundations for a much faster pace of development.
