Lightscribe

Just saw an ad for HP computers and they were showing off this new burner with "Lightscribe". they said it does a screen print of graphics on a disc? looked cool anyway. I've noticed though that there are no posts about it on here. just curious if anyone has any more info on it. Thanks.

Re: Lightscribe

there definetly have been posts on it here, It's supposed to cost only $10 more a drive and a few dimes more a disc, it's only available on a couple drives right now, but I esxpect that it will turn up on a few diferent production lines in the next year or two

Re: Lightscribe

Actually, I just talked to Verbatim's manager of DVD production today, and he had a number of samples. He said HP is shipping most if not all new PCs with Lightscribe-enabled drives.

They're fine if you just want to replace a Sharpie (and he said this himself), but it's monochrome, all gold and blacks. Full-quality prints take up to 40 minutes, and straight text (as opposed to radially-curved text) takes 30 or so.

It seems like it could be cool to just flip the disk over, put it back in the drive, and have it come out with disc art on it . . .

But it will probably never be in color.

Re: Lightscribe

not to mention its using the same hardware that is used for burning the disc, if I had to choose I'd prefer that my burner OR my printer went down/exploded, not both at the same time... It's like mountain climbers that dont put families on the same safety line...

Re: Lightscribe

I have an Epson R200 that has been fantastic. I print on hub-printable media and it looks fantastic. Much, much better than labels.

Re: Lightscribe

what is hub media?

i use the standard silver ones that i think are printable.

where did you get the printer?

does the printing hold up well?

i've seen it on the dvx filter disc but that is just b&w.
