Lightning

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
My talent is in a room, and I'd like to add lightning so it fills the room with light and then goes away quickly.

Any method of doing this?

Doing this in FCP would be good to.

Thanks,

Robbie

I had some good luck on an exterior scene with the glow effect in AE once. Lots of keyframing to the sound of thunder and it looked pretty believable.

Hi Rob.

Are you planning on using the lightning effect, or are you looking for a way to enhance it?

If you want to enhance it, try creating an adjustment layer with Levels and then Tint on it. Map the black point on the Tint to a very dark blue and the white to a very light blue. Then in Levels, boost the whites a little, and slam the Gamma/mids to light. Then keyframe the opacity of that Adjustment layer for the timing you want. You could add the Wiggle Expression to it, set to Jagged, and that would cause some nice strobing.

Play around with lightening blending modes, as well as Overlay, Hard Light, and others in that section.

I'm not at my work computer now, so I'm not sure what order to put the effects on the Adjustment layer. Might make a difference, might not.

Post some results please, regardless of the route you take.

Hope that helps.

Well, my talent is inside a room. I want the room to light up every so often. There, that was easier to explain/understand :)

Matt, rereading your explanation, I like it. I give that a try!

Thanks a lot!

Robbie
