Lighting

I am starting a video class this year at the local high school. I have a VERY limited budget. I would like a 3 light kit, but that may not be possible. I know there are some cheapo lights out there, but I want something that will last and can be expanded upon. Here is the light kit I am looking at:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/294038-REG/Lowel.html

It is only a 2 light kit, but I may not be able to get what I want for the amount I have. Given the choice, I would rather go with quality.

Does anyone think there is a better kit for the price? All help and opinions are appreciated.

Thanks!

Don't waste your money on that Lowel kit, try to find some used 1k, 650 or 350 fresnels.

Eiko 105w CFL E26 5000k globes with China balls would be a nice soft source.

Thanks for the advice. If it were my money, that is what I would do in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, used equipment is not an option. I am not sure why, but that is just the way it is.

What is it, specifically, about this kit that makes it not a very good kit. Lighting is a new subject for me so i am still learning.

Most of the cheaper Lowel lighting is almost the same as using lighting from a home improvement store, actually home improvement store lighting is better and often has more control then the Lowel lighting.

The main reasons specifically, 1) To small of size, 2) Poor heat dissipation, 3) Plastic parts that can melt if not used correctly.

If you want small lights that are true work horses I'd recommend LTM pepper's.

If you want cheap tungsten lighting try Mogul (e29/e30) 100/200/300 globes.

If your just getting into lighting get some focusable Fresnel's & Flo's ignore the LED hype till the phosphors used get more stabilized in the future from heat damage.
