Glass. White Edge technique

Glass. White Edge technique

Lighting for Glass requires unconventional approach in that light reflects in body of the subject. There are two main techniques: "White Edge" and "Black Edge". Picture below shows White Edge lighting effect

lets keep this thread going, i've learned more from this single thread than most lighting tutorials/books! (It helps to see shots with the set up and then the framed shot)

Thanks guys!

Set your monitor gamma to 2.2 for proper viewing. I shot this for 19th & Wilson Inc. ( www.19w.com ) The film was written and directed by Eric Espejo. The title is "The Love Story of Henry & Carol".

Nice one!
Stronger bulbs in the practicals, China over the bed, fresnel as hairlight and softbox right outside the frame...?

Posted this before but...

250W practical with a heavy diffusion 12" diffusion as the key, then a 250W Pro-light to edge. Then a contrast boost in post.

(looking back I should've added an eyelight though)

I was going to say "add an eyelight and you'd have a good shot" but you can already see that.

Good work.

Everything in frame is kind of washed with light, except for the side of the face.
I believe that shadows, just as light, need some motivation.
So here, the key is strong, the edge is strong, the BG is washed with light - why then is half of the face dark?
So besides the eyelight, INMH the BG needed to be broken up or at least to be brought down two stops...
Just my 2c of course !

Hm, maybe it is just the contrast boost in post, that doesn´t sell it for me...

I had a 1k softbox, 1 650w, 2 300w, 2 150w lights to create the mood and patterns of light on the walls. The motivation was the 2 practicals on each side of the bed embellished with a bit of style.

Used the same set up to create these looks also.

Hmm, that's actually a very good point I hadn't noticed before. Thanks.

HVX200 with no adaptor. Girl was keyed by a 1k fresnel with 216(?) about 7 feet away. Man is keyed by 1K as well with the kicker light from a 350W fresnel high and to his right with 1/2 CTB. In the man's shot, a 200w light was flagged to light up the gun held by the girl.

I didn't have any scrims for that light and it was overpowering the key, so the CTB was added to kill 2 stops.
