Lighting w/ micro35

I am about to get a Micro35 and I also need to purchase a new light kit. I am looking at a Kino Flo Diva 400 kit or Mole 3k kit. I like the soft light the Kino's put off but I am concerned if it will be enough. I thought that I read somewhere that the Micro35 really needs a lot of light. What has been your experiences with that? If that is true then I will need to go with the Mole kit.
Thanks for the help.

If by micro35 you mean M2 from redrock then I would say that it doens't require that much more light. The adapter itself is pretty much lossless with light. The lenses are the thing that will bringing you down.

Shoot with minimum f2.8 lenses, if you are using SLR and not cinema lenses.

As far as lights go...get both. If you can :cheesy: They are pretty different qualities of light. I'd say you can probably go farther with the Mole 3k (fresnel?) then one kino flo.

IMHO. teh out.

Yeah, in terms of lights, it really depends on what you need it for. 3k lights typically require a generator, while the Divas do not. However, Diva lights really do not have that much throw. They are more intense than other kino lights, but that's not saying much. One note of caution, if you do decide to mix the lights... Kino Diva tungsten bulbs have some green in them. I've now shot three films with them, and in the color timing process, we had to subtract some green. If you plan on shooting with Kino Diva lights, pick up some minus green gel. Just a word of caution.

As far as the Mole's are concerned, I meant 3k total. It would be 3 1k lights.

profnoxin, do you prefer one over the other? I probably would pick up a few Diva 400's. I am doing mostly interviews, some reinactment b-roll stuff. I would think the short throw of the Diva's would be good, not a light on the background.

Another option would be a 4 head Lowel DP Kit. With the money you save you could get some C-Stands and other grip goodies, too. I didn't like the Lowels when I first started working with them, but after awhile they grew on me. Even the Tota's. The production company I worked for had a 4 piece DP and an Arri 2K. More than enough for 99% of the Interview work that we shoot. Just my 2 cents, some people love Redheads, while I think they have the crappiest barndoor system EVER, especially if they get bent at all,hehe..
