Lighting/settings for trickling water

Hi Guys...

Could do with some help on this one please.
I'd like to shoot a few scenes where either in the foreground or in the background of the composition there is water trickling down on the walls or off the ceiling landing on a surface.

It's hard to describe... there are some good shots of this in Fight Club, which I'll attach below. Basically I'm asking your advice regarding how to make the water stand out and not just get lost in the background, advice on lighting as well as aperture and speed. I had heard If I shoot at 1/120 it will pick the movement of the water up a little clearer, not sure though. Hope that makes sense?

ooo I've just remembered something about the rain in 28 Days Later..I'll have to look that up.

Thanks for your help time and advice.

Definitely play with the shutter. A nice backlight is what makes rain show up but in this case I would say just try raking something across the wall to put a sheen on the water. Gel to white for realism or you could get stylistic. Position it as close to a backlight as you can get relative to your camera's position.
