Lighting reality t.v.

Hi. I'm shooting a reality show - the unscripted, follow people around kind, not the plotted "Apprentice" kind. I can use any advice available. Specifically, regardig lighting. Do people usually light this type? Any suggestions?

Battery operated and mobile lights. You want to keep your package light, portable and versatile. Kino Flo's with their power effeciency and tungsten/daylight configurations might work really well for you. What is it that you're shooting exactly? In what kind of locations?

If you have a couple rooms indoors that you know are crucial try taking a 1k and blasting the ceiling to get some nice bounced light to the rest of the room....you may want to tuck it some place that it's not in the way and depending on where you are, open a window to let that heat out!! ..I've done some scenes with 8 or more people and that gave a very nice even light throughout the room. (also, you may need to flag some light....try to match the ceiling line and not spill light in noticable areas. ...and you may need to color correct if you have sunlight coming into the room.)

Depending on the size of the room you may need a couple ....try different combos and be away of what circuits your using so that you don't trip the breakers!

Good luck!

if you have many rooms to do than with reallity shows we sometimes use track lights, you can put in larger watt bulbs and bounce them from the ceilling or us smaller frosted bulbs and use them as keys or spots. mix that with some ikea china balls with 200 watt flood lamps on dimmers and you have moody spots and soft key lights. also dont forget to set your white ballance correctly. if it seems to warm then you can go into your user file and dail out some of the reds or try adding some blue to ballance where you would like it.
