Lighting ratio question

I'm a bit (more than a bit) confused about how to determine lighting ratio using the dvx100's spot meter...
Shall I use it with each light separately to read at which f-stop it's 50 IRE?
 
If you are using the DVXs spot meter, you shouldn't need to use it to calculate lighting ratios. Just use your IRE to get what you want (e.g. 70 on key side 40 on fill or whatever) and match that.

In theory you could use the cam's spot meter to calculate ratios, but for video, the only people who are worried about ratios are lighting studio sets and have a meter that will measure in fc.
