Lighting Night Exteriors -- Need Help!

Genni's used for lights, absolutely need to be crystal sync'd. This prevents flucuation in the power. No, a power strip will not suffice. HMI's especially will flicker if not given proper, constant power...

I just talked to a film equipment rental guy (he's their tech guy in the lighting department)... He said that the flicker-free ballast will keep the hmi's from flickering with a normal genny. Any thoughts?

Yes, that's what's great about electronic ballasts. Unfortunately, in Iowa, where I work, electronic ballasts are only now a regular item on set. I'm used to the older, magnetic ballasts. Clean power is always important, and that's what you get with a crystal sync genny.

I have a situation in my next film where I need to light a large exterior night scene. I have an arri 2k light (which I think will do the trick) but I was wondering if it would run off my car, using a power converter? Thanks.

if you can find a power inverter that supplies 2,000 watts of continuous power and a battery (recommend a marine battery - the kind they use in RVs) then you're in business...by the way just in case you didn't know if it says 750watts that's the max the continuous is a bit less.
