Lighting Kit

It helps to know what you are shooting. And I am assuming that you need all components to a light kit (as in you have nothing as of right now.)
 
Correct I have nothing for lighting, I have (Past) used whatever lamps and household type lights. I am looking for an all around kit that might be universally usable in multiple shooting scenarios. Mostly bad indoor shots. Also maybe lighting that depict subject well while still giving the dark scene effect. Any help / pointers would be apreciated!
