Lighting in Malaysia

I will be shooting in Malaysia and Japan for a week this month and wanted to know if I can use lights I have from the US. In the past when I've travelled I've just used available light for my interviews because I didn't have the space for lights. This time I want to bring one light for interviews. I do have a few 220 watt bulbs I'm just not sure if that is the correct kind for Asia. I've been searching for a while and couldn't find any good information. Thanks!

Japan is 100V and depending 50 Hz or 60 Hz. Malysia appears to be 240V 5 Hz.

You should make sure your plugs and lights are good for 100-240 V...

Here's a useful URL:

The most significant problem after whether your equipment is good for the power, is the type of plug.

This URL will give plug types.

If your power cord is good for 240 V, then it is just a simple matter of getting the right plug adapter, rather than worry about power conversions.

As it is, when I go abroad I usually don't need to power anything more than my Laptop and camera battery chargers. So even though technically the power cords may only be good for 120 V US, I've not had them burn up because they are drawing 10 or 15 amps...

With lights you may want to be absolutely sure your power cords are rated for the 240 V situation.
